ĦHISTORY OF CLOISONNE
Cloisonne originated in Central Asia, which was said to be a center of ancient culture.
The art came to Japan with Buddhism.
Japanese Cloisonne consists mainly of two types. Dojin Hirata, a gold smith in the period of Momoyama (1568-1603), produced the handles of the Japanese cloisonne. The other method was developed by Tsunekichi Kaji. He lived in Nagoya suburbs during the latter part of the Edo period(1603-1868). He happened upon the method of cloisonne making in an ancient book and produced his own technique which became the genuine Japanese Cloisonne you see here today.
Inaba Cloisonne Co., established 1887, has about 120 years experience. We are very proud of our part in keeping this traditional industry alive.
